HIGHWAYS
AGENCY USE X-VIEW FOR LIVE VIDEO TRAFFIC MONITORING
1st December 2006
London, England – December 1st 2006 – e-mediavision.com,
a leading UK based innovator of advanced technology solutions for
image display and manipulation, has provided the award winning
X-View M32SH series Multiviewers to the UK’s Highways Agency,
for monitoring of live CCTV video traffic monitoring.
The Highways Agency’s newly designed traffic monitoring
and response centre located near the M6 motorway in Warrington,
monitors the traffic flow for the entire major motorway network
in the North West of England. The 24/7 operational centre relies
heavily on CCTV video to provide visibility of traffic flows in
order to provide quick responses for major incidents.
Working in conjunction with the Highways Agency project team,
e-mediavision.com designed, delivered and installed a working solution
on time, in budget. The new control centre is cylindrical in shape,
which in itself posed a challenge & required a unique design
for the display of the multiple CCTV cameras. Rather than taking
the normal approach of using back projection cubes, e-mediavision.com
opted for a unique design that would meet operational requirements
and be very cost efficient in terms of the running costs. E-mediavision.com
designed a solution that comprises of three giant 4 meter by 3
meter front projection screens driven by high brightness Panasonic
dual lamp projectors which provide high brightness images on the
large screens even in the high ambient light conditions. The dual
lamp system ensured that should one lamp fail the second would
automatically take over, for ease of servicing the e-mediavision
system provides on screen messages to operators to notify them
that the lamp will need changing some 250 hours before failure,
the system status can also be monitored via the network interface.
The large projected images are driven from the award winning X-View
M32SH multiviewers, each providing the ability to display up to
32 sources of video or computer inputs in a virtual monitor mosaic
configuration, with individual captions per source window, which
allows the operators to easily identify displayed camera sources.
The video images are mixed with the relevant computer generated
graphical map of the road networks. Main operator controls via
a keypad as well as supervisory control software ensures that the
system remains flexible according to operational requirements.
The X-view M32SH multiviewers are enabled with dual redundant power
supplies and front loading hot swappable input cards ensuring that
any repairs can be undertaken without adversely affecting the monitoring
operations. The X-View multiviewers are interfaced to the projection
devices via X-Tools line drivers and high resolution, low loss
interface X-Tools cabling systems to ensure optimum picture quality
at long distances.
The use of DLP based projection technology and the X-view multiviewers
provides a perfect combination to realising a virtual monitor display
wall for CCTV monitoring applications, the running costs, space
requirements, air conditioning and power requirements are all greatly
reduced compared to other display technology which leads to a more
efficient system without compromising functionality.
e-mediavision.com not only provided the main control room displays
it also designed and installed the paging system as well as the
internal TV system and distribution elements.
